Lafalaise Dion

2019. After an eye opening trip to Accra, Ghana, Lafalaise Dion would officially launch her brand under the same name in 2018. Dion stresses that the brand is not simply a fashion label, but rather a movement, a community, and a place where the artist can express herself through her work. From Man, a city in western Côte d’Ivoire, Lafalaise Dion always envisioned herself working in the fashion industry. Growing up of Dan (tribe) ethnicity, Lafalaise was fascinated by the temate dancers (traditional) and the cowries that adorned their bodies as they performed rituals. As a young woman, Lafalaise would immerse herself in books on African spirituality, and later travel to Accra, Ghana, where she would experience an artistic awakening, leading her to design and compose the cowrie pieces that celebrate her ancestral practices and African heritage.
