The eponymous label SOJI SOLARIN was initially founded in Los Angeles, in 2016. Born in Nigeria, and later moving to the United States in his early teenage years, Soji Solarin’s work speaks to the malleability of being black in both African and North American contexts. Soon after Solarin graduated from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, fueled by research and the designer’s fundamental understanding of the differing iterations of blackness, the label was created. Now based in Berlin, Soji Solarin was awarded the Global Talents award in Fall 2019 and debuted his Spring 2020 collection at MBFW Moscow.
